Stop drinking from emotion. Start responding with a plan.
An eight-week recovery education program for adults who use alcohol to cope with pain, anger, shame, isolation, or relationship stress—built around practical tools, peer accountability, and a written recovery action plan.
When alcohol becomes the fastest way to escape an emotion.
A lot of people do not drink because they are celebrating. They drink because the room gets dark, the emotion gets loud, and the bottle becomes the fastest way to escape.
EMERGE 8 helps participants name the pattern, identify the trigger chain, interrupt escalation, build accountable support, and leave with a written plan for high-risk moments.

From trigger recognition to recovery action.
The Pattern Has a Name
Map the personal trigger chain and identify emotional drinking patterns.
The Room, The Mood, The Story
Expose high-risk environments, isolation habits, and internal narratives.
The 90-Second Interruption
Practice usable regulation tools before the first drink or first argument.
Shame, Anger, and the False Solution
Move from shame-driven isolation toward safe disclosure and support.
Relationship Damage and Repair
Build ownership language, repair scripts, and conflict boundaries.
The Relapse Decision Tree
Turn relapse prevention into visible, rehearsed if/then decisions.
Support Is a System
Map peers, professionals, family, faith/community, and referral support.
The Recovery Action Plan
Finalize commitments and a 30/60/90-day continuation plan.
Participants should not have to carry the full cost of getting support.
EMERGE 8 is designed for grant-funded, sponsored, and institutional delivery so community access can stay low-cost while partner organizations receive a structured program and measurable reporting.
Participants
Plain-spoken recovery education, practical exercises, accountability, and clear next steps.
Participant pathway →Organizations
A portable cohort model for nonprofits, workforce programs, faith communities, reentry initiatives, and public agencies.
Partner model →Funders
A defined intervention, proposed outcomes framework, referral model, and pilot-ready implementation package.
Funding model →A recovery program built from the pattern Matt wishes someone had named earlier.
Matt Howery’s lived experience with emotionally driven drinking shaped the core question behind EMERGE 8: what if people could recognize what is happening before the emotion becomes the drink, the blackout, the argument, or the next consequence?

Recovery support without pretending to be clinical treatment.
EMERGE 8 is intentionally positioned as recovery education, peer support, action planning, and referral navigation unless delivered within an appropriately credentialed clinical structure.
Program boundary
EMERGE 8 does not diagnose, detox, prescribe, provide psychotherapy, or replace licensed behavioral-health care. Participants whose needs exceed program scope are referred to qualified services.
